  General

Ludovic Vaty (21 November 1988 – 1 September 2023) was a French basketball player and coach. He started his basketball journey in Guadeloupe and eventually moved to Metropolitan France to pursue his career in basketball.

Vaty made his debut in LNB Pro A during the 2007–08 season with Pau-Lacq-Orthez. Throughout his career, he played for various teams, both in France and internationally. He achieved notable successes, including winning a bronze medal with the French U-19 team at the 2007 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup.

However, his career was impacted by health challenges. In May 2013, Vaty was forced to retire early due to a heart condition incompatible with high-level sports. Despite this setback, he later returned to playing amateur basketball.

Tragically, in August 2023, while training with TOAC Basket, Vaty suffered a heart attack and was placed into a medically induced coma. He passed away in Toulouse on 1 September 2023 at the age of 34.
